  The end is in sight   -     -  17th May 2003 18:47
The final games of the season were played this week with PR^ taking an easy victory over an under strength DM, UK-R rolling over Clan Green and DEA failing to show for the final round against EW.

As a consequence of all that the playoff lineup is as follows:-

MPUK v EW
LCD v PR^

With the final to be played against the victors.

Apologies for the short notice but the playoffs will beigin this coming Monday at 20:00 with the final straight after. The map chosen by Gunny, the main BF1942 Head Admin are Operation Market Garden for the first game and Gazala for the second.

Confirmation of the next season is due shortly so watch this space.

  Final Week   -     -  05th May 2003 22:15
Well we finished off the season with perhaps our worst week.

We had 3 defaults this week. Understandably two of them came due to clans having withdrawn but they were joined in the defaulting stakes by VFS. This default saw MPUK crowned champions of Division One. PR^ are sitting pretty in second place but have one game left to play against DM on Iwo Jima. In Division Two LCD maintained there unbeaten record and took the honours in their division.

The EW v DEA game regrettably ended badly with the server inexplicably restarting with 5 minutes left to play. The rules do cover this situation and are quoted as follows "If during the game players drop then the game will not be paused. Players that drop should endeavor to return to the server as soon as possible. Only if the server crashes before the conclusion of a round will a round be replayed." Therefore the round will be replayed next week at the usual time in order to see who finishes second in Division Two. At this time DEA have a 3 ticket advantage having won the first round as allies 231 to 228. My apologies go out to EW as they were ahead at the time the server restarted and I wish both teams good luck for next week.

Due to the need to replay this round the final playoff places are undecided at this time. As a consequence the playoffs will begin a week on monday. This will allow time for all the reschedules to occur. Therefore the following games are to be played next week:-

12th May at 21:00 GMT
DM v PR^ on Iwo Jima
Clan Green v UK-R on Iwo Jima
EW v DEA on Operation Market Garden

With the playoffs scheduled for the 19th May.

  End of Season and looking forward   -     -  05th May 2003 18:59
This week's games see the end of the official season. We still have two postponed games to catch up on but they should be sorted by next week.

With the divsisions not split by ability this season it was agreed that at the start of the season the top two teams in each division would play off for some eventual crown. This is still the case. The top team in division one will play the second placed team in division two, while the top team in division two will go on to play the second team in division one. This is scheduled to occur next week with the final being arranged for the following week. I'll post the maps later this evening after speaking with the other admins as to which to choose.

We are looking at finishing this season we 17 out of the 20 teams that started the campaign (3para joined after week one and have since gone through a name change). This is pretty good going for a league that requires each team to find a minimum of 8 players a game. In fact most sides played the season with 10 players a side and this has therefore made up my mind to go to a minimum of TEN players a side as opposed to the current minimum of eight.

In terms of divisional structures what I would like to see happen is us move to a tiered league where teams of equal ability are placed in the same league. This season we were unable to do this as a large number of teams were unable to play in both timeslots. That being said I think the appetite might now be here for teams to be more flexible over the times. The top 4 clans from each division I would suggest should go into the first division with a further 2 being added from the pending list.

At this time we have 17 clans competeting and 11 signups pending with another one likely to be received later today. This gives us a total of 29 clans and therefore it is likely that we will see 3 divisions next season of 10 clans each. As a consequence of this we will be expanding to a new da.....

  Week Eight   -     -  28th Apr 2003 22:29
We lost two teams tonight, NBK and Weedkillers in Div 2 and Div 1 respectively.

My thanks go to NBK for letting me know the situation with there team and giving notice that they were suffering a player crisis. Hope to see you back playing again soon if that is possible. As for Weedkillers, not really got a lot to say to you following your default in Week 1, your postponement in Week 7 and finally your no show in Week 8 without anyone having the decency to pop in the channel and let us know.

With the season almost over I'm not going to bother replacing either and so there last games will be defaulted to the opposition. Hux and 3Para therefore do not have games next week. Weedkillers also had a postponed game against TC to catch up with and this has now been defaulted in favour of TC.

With the final week almost upon us it is pretty certain that we will see LCD and Mpuk in the playoffs as they both top their divisions at this time. In contention for the other play off places are PR^, Hux, EW and DEA. PR^'s superior ticket difference gives them an advantage but with a difficult game against DM who beat Hux this week ahead of them there is still a chance that Hux can get there, though to do so they would have to win their game against Mpuk. The battle for second in Div 2 is an interesting one. EW and DEA are tied on points going into the final week and are scheduled to play each other in that last week. EW go into the game slight favourites with a slightly better Ticket Difference and the knowledge that O.M.G is their home map but only time will tell who will come out on top.

The postponed games of Hux v Mpuk and Uk-R v Clan Green have now been scheduled. Hux play Mpuk on Sunday the 4th of May at 20:00 while UK-R take on Clan Green on Monday the 12th of May at 21:00. Only one postponed game left to reschedule which is PR^ v DM.

  Week 6 Came and went   -     -  21st Apr 2003 23:01
A number of postponements this week so let me first deal with those.

Hux v MPUK - pp'd by MPUK two weeks ago
Clan Green v UK-R - pp'd by UK-R at 19:11 tonight
PR v DM - pp'd by DM at 20:44 tonight
TC v Weedkillers - pp'd by WK at 20:49 tonight

All of these fixtures need rearranging and apart from the hux v MPUK one I'm going to ask the team who didn't postpone to email me with a time and a date to play there game (I would like you to contact the other side to see if they can play as a matter of courtesy). If you could provide at least a 10 day gap before the reschedule to allow the other side to get organised that would be appreciated.

While I know Clan Green is particularily agrieved over the postponement of their match could I thank the other two clans on the wrong end of a postponement for their positive attitude to it. Was refreshing not to be blamed for it especially as your games were postponed with even less time to go before the game.

  Back :)   -     -  20th Apr 2003 00:51
Holiday over and now I'm back. Hope you all enjoyed last monday's games and thanks to EvilDan for keeping the show on the road.

The scores have now been updated and available for viewing.

Coming onto this week's games I'm aware that we may have a number of postponements in addition to the mpuk v hux game. I haven't had any emails to request these but I do know you've been letting Dan know. Therefore it may be the case that your game gets postponed at the last minute, if so apologies for that but I think it's only fair that we allow people to have Easter off.

If you still want to play this week and your opposition turns up then the games will go ahead. If you turn up and the opposition doesn't then no defaults will be given.

  Week Five.......   -     -  07th Apr 2003 20:33
Well the halfway point is here and to be honest its going better than I expected :).

First to business and next week, despite me not being around, the League will be played as normal with EvilDan stepping up to the plate and taking over my job. To assist him I'm happy to announce we have two new admins in the form of Tan and Qball. If you are interested in helping out on the admin front then please mail me and I'll let you know what it involves.

On the playing side we have only one game outstanding between LCD and 3Para which is scheduled to take place at 20:00 GMT on Thursday the 10th of April (that's this week).

In addition we have our first proper postponement with MPUK unable to play their game against Hux on the 21st of April. I will be emailing both sides in order to fix up a time for it to be rescheduled. If anyone else needs to postpone over the Easter period then email me ASAP.

Having reached the halfway stage I'll be opening various polls on the forum to allow you to vote on the future of the league next season. Expect map votes, team sizes, times etc etc to be up for discussion as at the end of the day the league is run for you therefore you decide what happens.

I hope that everyone is continueing to have fun in the league and I'll see you all tonight. If you can try and encourage your team mates to idle in #bf1942.jolt that would be great to see.

Regards

Doc

  Easter Period   -     -  31st Mar 2003 18:54
Just to forwarn you all....

The Easter Holidays (in the UK) starts on Monday the 14th of April. As a consequence of being married to a school teacher I will be vacating the country for the first week of the holidays. Due to my abscence I might declare a week's holiday for the league during this period (unless I can find someone to sort the servers out and stuff).

I'll confirm one way or another later this week.
